PURS Spring 2025 Application

The Provost's Undergraduate Research Scholarship (PURS) program provides undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in a semester-long research project under the direction of a UH faculty mentor. Recipients will receive a $1,000 scholarship to conduct part-time research (6-7 hours per week) during the Spring 2025 semester. All full-time UH faculty members are eligible to participate as faculty mentors.

Scholarships will be awarded to sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled full-time with at least a 3.0 GPA. This means applicants must have completed at least 30 credit hours by the beginning of Spring 2025 (excluding hours earned during high school). Only seniors planning to graduate in the Spring 2025 semester are permitted to have part-time enrollment while participating in PURS. Students may not earn course credit for their PURS project. Additionally, students may not participate in PURS and the Senior Honors Thesis program concurrently, regardless of whether the topics are different.

In addition to submitting this online application form, a letter of recommendation from your faculty mentor is required for eligibility. The letter should be emailed to Livia Garza (llgarza9@cougarnet.uh.edu) no later than Friday, November 8, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.

Eligibility Requirements

Please acknowledge you meet the following eligibility requirements. Applicants should be degree-seeking undergraduate students at the UH Main campus, including students enrolled in programs housed at UH Sugar Land. Applicants cannot have received a PURS scholarship in any previous semester. Applicants must also have at least 30 credit hours prior to the start of the Spring 2025 semester and should be enrolled full-time during PURS. Seniors graduating in Spring 2025 are permitted to be enrolled part-time.
