Mentored Opportunity Program - Application Form

Mentored Opportunity Program - Application Form

The Honors College Mentored Opportunity (MO) program extends student learning beyond the classroom into a professional work setting. Students will be matched with a mentor at a host company or non-profit organization where they will receive an immersive professional development experience and individualized mentorship that will help prepare them for their future endeavors.

Rather than training students for a specific trade, the program’s goal is to provide students with experiences and transferrable knowledge about the nature of work, professional development, and career preparation. Students will participate in day-to-day, site-based learning activities under the guidance and expertise of their mentors. In a concurrent classroom seminar, Honors College faculty will cultivate students' practical intelligence using a curriculum designed to encourage critical reflection about the students’ experiences.

To apply, please complete Parts 1 and 2 of the application below. Applications for the Fall 2022 semester are currently open on a rolling basis.

After completing the application, students will receive follow-up communications from program faculty and/or staff to arrange an interview to discuss program requirements and the placement process.

Once accepted into the program, students will be assigned a mentor at a company or non-profit organization in the Houston area and will complete 150-200 hours of site-based learning during the Fall 2022 semester. Scheduling details will be worked out between the mentor and the student.

In addition, participating students will register for a 1-credit hour seminar during the Fall 2022 semester. Additional information for course registration will be provided upon acceptance to the program.

Finally, participating students will be eligible to receive a scholarship of $3,000 to facilitate their participation in the program.
